Nikolaos (Saint)
Nikolaos, commonly known as Saint Nicholas, was a 4th-century bishop of Myra, in present-day Turkey. He is celebrated for his generosity and kindness, particularly towards children and the poor. His life inspired many legends, including the story of him secretly providing dowries for three impoverished sisters, which led to his reputation as a gift-giver.
Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of sailors, merchants, and children, among others. His feast day is celebrated on December 6th, and he is often associated with the modern figure of Santa Claus. His legacy continues to influence Christmas traditions around the world.
