Nikephoros II
Nikephoros II, also known as Nikephoros Phokas, was a Byzantine Emperor who reigned from 963 to 969 AD. He was a skilled military leader and is best known for his successful campaigns against the Arabs and Bulgarians, which expanded the Byzantine Empire's territory. His reign marked a period of military resurgence for the empire.
Born into the prominent Phokas family, Nikephoros II was initially a general before ascending to the throne. His rule was characterized by efforts to strengthen the empire's defenses and improve its economy. However, his reign ended when he was assassinated in a palace coup, leading to the rise of John I Tzimiskes.
