Nigerian-Cameroon chimpanzee
The Nigerian-Cameroon chimpanzee is a subspecies of the common chimpanzee, scientifically known as Pan troglodytes ellioti. This chimpanzee is primarily found in the forests of Nigeria and Cameroon, where it inhabits both lowland and montane forests. They are known for their social behavior, living in communities that can range from a few individuals to over a hundred.
These chimpanzees have a diverse diet that includes fruits, leaves, seeds, and occasionally insects. They play a crucial role in their ecosystem by aiding in seed dispersal. The Nigerian-Cameroon chimpanzee is currently classified as endangered due to habitat loss and poaching.
