Newport Transporter Bridge
The Newport Transporter Bridge is a unique suspension bridge located in Newport, Wales. Opened in 1906, it spans the River Usk and connects the communities of Newport and Caerleon. The bridge is notable for its transporter design, which allows a gondola to carry vehicles and pedestrians across the river, rather than having them drive over the bridge itself.
Standing at 59 meters tall, the bridge is one of only a few remaining transporter bridges in the world. It was designed by engineer Sir Benjamin Baker and is a Grade I listed structure, recognized for its historical and architectural significance.
