Newfoundland Regiment
The Newfoundland Regiment was a military unit formed in 1914, primarily composed of volunteers from Newfoundland, which was then a separate dominion of the British Empire. It played a significant role during World War I, particularly in the Battle of the Somme in 1916, where it suffered heavy casualties.
The regiment was known for its bravery and determination, earning a reputation as a distinguished fighting force. After the war, it was disbanded in 1919, but its legacy continues to be honored in Newfoundland and Labrador through various memorials and commemorative events.
