New York City water supply system
The New York City water supply system is one of the largest and most complex in the world. It provides over a billion gallons of fresh water daily to more than 8 million residents. The system sources water from a network of reservoirs located in the nearby Catskill and Delaware watersheds, which are treated and distributed through an extensive network of pipes.
Water is transported through approximately 6,000 miles of pipes, ensuring that it reaches homes, businesses, and public facilities. The system is managed by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, which oversees water quality and infrastructure maintenance to ensure a reliable supply.
