New People's Army
The New People's Army (NPA) is a communist guerrilla group in the Philippines, founded in 1969. It is the military wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and aims to overthrow the government through armed struggle. The NPA operates mainly in rural areas and is known for its ambushes, extortion, and recruitment of local fighters.
The group has been involved in a long-standing conflict with the Philippine government, which has labeled it as a terrorist organization. Efforts for peace negotiations have occurred intermittently, but violence and clashes continue, impacting local communities and the broader socio-political landscape of the country.
