Neutron Behavior
Neutrons are subatomic particles found in the nucleus of an atom, alongside protons. They have no electric charge, which allows them to penetrate atomic structures without repelling other particles. This unique property makes neutrons essential in nuclear reactions, such as those occurring in nuclear reactors and nuclear weapons.
In addition to their role in nuclear processes, neutrons contribute to the stability of atomic nuclei. The balance between neutrons and protons determines the type of isotope an element represents. For example, carbon-12 has six protons and six neutrons, while carbon-14 has six protons and eight neutrons, affecting their stability and behavior in various chemical reactions.
