Nene Goose
The Nene Goose, also known as the Hawaiian Goose, is a unique bird native to the Hawaiian Islands. It is the state bird of Hawaii and is known for its distinctive black head and neck, along with a brownish body. The Nene has adapted to the volcanic landscapes of Hawaii, primarily feeding on grasses and leaves.
This goose is a conservation success story, as it was once on the brink of extinction due to habitat loss and introduced predators. Conservation efforts have helped increase its population, and it is now found in several protected areas across the islands, including Haleakalā National Park.
