Nene
The Nene, also known as the Hawaiian goose, is a bird native to the Hawaiian Islands. It is recognized for its distinctive black head and neck, with a light brown body and a unique honking call. The Nene is well-adapted to its volcanic island habitat, often found in grasslands and shrublands.
This bird is the state bird of Hawaii and is known for its limited flight ability, primarily walking and foraging on the ground. The Nene was once on the brink of extinction due to habitat loss and introduced predators, but conservation efforts have helped its population recover.
