Nelson Dingley Jr.
Nelson Dingley Jr. was an American politician born on February 15, 1832, in Durham, Maine. He served as a member of the Republican Party and was known for his role in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1895 until his death in 1899. Dingley was also the author of the Dingley Tariff, which aimed to protect American industries by raising tariffs on imported goods.
Dingley’s political career included serving as the Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives and as a state senator. He was a prominent figure in Maine politics and contributed significantly to economic policies during his time in office. Dingley passed away on January 13, 1899.
