Necroptosis
Necroptosis is a form of programmed cell death that occurs when cells undergo a specific type of inflammatory response. Unlike apoptosis, which is a controlled process, necroptosis leads to cell swelling and rupture, releasing cellular contents into the surrounding tissue. This can trigger an immune response, making it important in various biological processes and diseases.
This mechanism is often activated in response to certain signals, such as those from tumor necrosis factor (TNF) or viral infections. Researchers study necroptosis to understand its role in conditions like neurodegenerative diseases and cancer, as it may influence inflammation and tissue damage.
