Nazaré Waves
The Nazaré Waves are some of the largest ocean waves in the world, located off the coast of Nazaré, Portugal. These massive waves can reach heights of over 80 feet (24 meters) and are primarily generated by underwater canyons that funnel and amplify swells from the Atlantic Ocean.
The unique geography of the area, including the Nazaré Canyon, plays a crucial role in creating these giant waves. Surfers from around the globe come to challenge themselves on these powerful waves, making Nazaré a popular destination for big wave surfing events.
