Natrix natrix
Natrix natrix, commonly known as the grass snake, is a non-venomous snake found across Europe and parts of Asia. It typically inhabits wetlands, grasslands, and forests, often near water sources. Grass snakes are known for their distinctive green or brown coloration, which helps them blend into their surroundings.
These snakes primarily feed on amphibians, such as frogs and toads, but they may also eat fish and small mammals. Natrix natrix is an excellent swimmer and can often be seen basking in the sun. During the breeding season, females lay eggs in warm, moist environments, contributing to the species' population.
