National Scenic Riverways
National Scenic Riverways are designated areas in the United States that protect and preserve the natural beauty and ecological integrity of certain rivers. These riverways are managed by the National Park Service and offer opportunities for recreational activities such as canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and hiking. They are recognized for their outstanding scenic, recreational, and cultural values.
Established under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968, National Scenic Riverways aim to maintain the free-flowing condition of rivers while safeguarding their surrounding landscapes. These areas often feature diverse wildlife habitats and rich historical sites, making them important for both conservation and public enjoyment.
