National Patriotic Front of Liberia
The National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL) is a political and military organization that was founded in 1989 by Charles Taylor. It emerged during the first Liberian Civil War, aiming to overthrow the government of then-President Samuel Doe. The NPFL became known for its guerrilla warfare tactics and played a significant role in the conflict, which lasted until 1997.
After the civil war, the NPFL transitioned into a political party. It participated in the 1997 elections, leading to the election of Charles Taylor as President of Liberia. The NPFL's legacy is marked by its involvement in the violence and instability that characterized Liberia during the 1990s.
