National Imagery and Mapping Agency
The National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) was a United States government agency responsible for providing geospatial intelligence and mapping services. Established in 1996, it played a crucial role in supporting national security and military operations by producing high-quality imagery and maps. NIMA's work involved collecting and analyzing data from various sources, including satellites and aerial reconnaissance.
In 2003, NIMA was renamed the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) to better reflect its focus on geospatial intelligence. The agency continues to support various government entities, including the Department of Defense and intelligence community, by delivering critical information for decision-making and operational planning.
