National Forest System
The National Forest System is a collection of public lands in the United States managed by the U.S. Forest Service. It includes 154 national forests and 20 national grasslands, covering over 193 million acres. These lands are designated for multiple uses, including recreation, wildlife habitat, and timber production.
Established in the early 1900s, the National Forest System aims to conserve natural resources while providing opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, camping, and fishing. It plays a crucial role in protecting ecosystems and promoting sustainable land management practices across the country.
