Nara Daibutsu
The Nara Daibutsu, also known as the Great Buddha of Nara, is a monumental bronze statue located in Todai-ji Temple in Nara, Japan. Completed in 752 AD, it stands approximately 15 meters tall and represents Vairocana Buddha, a central figure in Buddhism. The statue is a significant cultural and historical symbol, attracting many visitors each year.
The construction of the Nara Daibutsu was part of a larger effort to promote Buddhism in Japan during the Nara period. The statue was originally housed in a massive wooden hall, known as the Great Buddha Hall, which is one of the largest wooden structures in the world. The Nara Daibutsu remains an important pilgrimage site and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
