Naofumi Iwatani is the main character in the light novel and anime series, The Rising of the Shield Hero. He is summoned to a fantasy world as one of four legendary heroes tasked with defending the realm from waves of monsters. Naofumi is initially given the title of the Shield Hero, which means he wields a shield as his primary weapon. After being falsely accused of a crime, Naofumi becomes distrustful and cynical.
