Nansemond County
Nansemond County was a historical county located in the southeastern part of Virginia, known for its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. It was established in the early 17th century and played a significant role in the development of the region. The county was named after the Nansemond tribe, a Native American group that inhabited the area.
In 1972, Nansemond County was merged with the city of Suffolk, creating a larger urban area. Today, the legacy of Nansemond County can still be seen in Suffolk, which retains many historical sites and landmarks that reflect its past, including the Nansemond River.
