Nan Madol
Nan Madol is an ancient archaeological site located on the eastern shore of Pohnpei, an island in the Federated States of Micronesia. It consists of a series of small islets connected by a network of canals, built using large basalt stones. The site served as a ceremonial and political center for the ruling elite of the Saudeleur dynasty from around 1100 to 1600 AD.
The construction of Nan Madol is notable for its impressive engineering, with some structures reaching heights of over 10 meters. The site is often referred to as the "Venice of the Pacific" due to its unique layout and waterway system. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting researchers and tourists interested in its historical significance.
