Nairs
The Nairs are a traditional community primarily found in the state of Kerala, India. Historically, they were known as a warrior class and played significant roles in the military and administration of local kingdoms. The Nairs have a matrilineal system, where lineage and inheritance are traced through the female line, which is a distinctive feature of their culture.
In addition to their martial heritage, the Nairs are also recognized for their contributions to Kathakali, a classical dance-drama known for its elaborate costumes and storytelling. The community has a rich tradition of art, music, and folklore, reflecting the diverse cultural landscape of Kerala.
