Nagybánya artists' colony
The Nagybánya artists' colony was established in the late 19th century in the town of Nagybánya, now known as Baia Mare in Romania. It became a significant center for artists, particularly those associated with the Hungarian and Romanian art movements. The colony attracted painters, sculptors, and other creatives who were inspired by the region's natural beauty and vibrant culture.
The artists' colony is known for its emphasis on plein air painting, where artists worked outdoors to capture the landscape and light. Notable figures, such as István Réti and Károly Ferenczy, contributed to its reputation, influencing the development of modern art in Transylvania and beyond.
