Nabakalebara
Nabakalebara is a significant ritual in the Hindu tradition, particularly associated with the Jagannath Temple in Puri, India. This event occurs every 12 to 19 years and involves the creation of new wooden idols for the deities Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra. The old idols are replaced, symbolizing renewal and the cycle of life.
During Nabakalebara, a special type of wood called Neem is used to carve the new idols. The process includes various rituals and ceremonies, ensuring that the divine essence is transferred from the old idols to the new ones. This event attracts thousands of devotees and tourists, highlighting its cultural and spiritual significance.
