NGC 891
NGC 891 is a spiral galaxy located approximately 30 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda. It is notable for its edge-on appearance, which allows astronomers to study its structure and dust lanes in detail. The galaxy spans about 100,000 light-years in diameter and is classified as an Sb type spiral galaxy.
Discovered by William Herschel in 1784, NGC 891 is often compared to our own Milky Way galaxy due to its similar size and structure. It contains a significant amount of interstellar dust and gas, which plays a crucial role in star formation. Observations of NGC 891 contribute to our understanding of galaxy evolution.
