NGC 6950
NGC 6950 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation Delphinus. It is approximately 70 million light-years away from Earth and is part of the Virgo Supercluster. The galaxy has a diameter of about 100,000 light-years and contains a mix of young and old stars.
Discovered by the astronomer William Herschel in 1784, NGC 6950 is notable for its bright central bar structure, which is characteristic of barred spiral galaxies. Observations of NGC 6950 contribute to our understanding of galaxy formation and evolution, particularly in how bars influence star formation within galaxies.
