NGC 679
NGC 679 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation of Phoenix. It is approximately 60 million light-years away from Earth and is part of the Hubble Space Telescope catalog of galaxies. NGC 679 has a diameter of about 100,000 light-years and contains a mix of young and old stars, along with regions of active star formation.
Discovered by the astronomer John Herschel in 1834, NGC 679 is classified as a type SBc galaxy, indicating its spiral structure with a prominent bar. Observations of this galaxy contribute to our understanding of galaxy formation and evolution in the universe.
