NGC 6505
NGC 6505 is a bright planetary nebula located in the constellation of Scorpius. It is approximately 1,500 light-years away from Earth and is known for its striking appearance, which resembles a small, glowing disk. The nebula is formed from gas and dust ejected from a dying star, which is now a white dwarf at its center.
Discovered by William Herschel in 1786, NGC 6505 is also cataloged as PK 100-6.1. Its vibrant colors are a result of ionized gases, primarily hydrogen and oxygen, which emit light as they are energized by the central star. This nebula is a fascinating example of stellar evolution and the life cycle of stars.
