NGC 6287
NGC 6287 is a globular cluster located in the constellation Ophiuchus. It is approximately 50,000 light-years away from Earth and is part of our Milky Way galaxy. This cluster contains a large number of stars, estimated to be around 100,000, and is known for its relatively high metallicity compared to other globular clusters.
Discovered by William Herschel in 1784, NGC 6287 is classified as a type II globular cluster, indicating it has a more concentrated core. Its age is estimated to be around 13 billion years, making it one of the older clusters in the Milky Way. Observations of NGC 6287 provide valuable insights into the formation and evolution of star clusters.
