NGC 4601
NGC 4601 is a barred spiral galaxy located approximately 60 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo. It is part of the Virgo Cluster, which contains thousands of galaxies. NGC 4601 has a diameter of about 100,000 light-years and features a prominent central bar structure, characteristic of barred spiral galaxies.
Discovered by astronomer William Herschel in 1784, NGC 4601 is notable for its bright core and well-defined spiral arms. Observations of this galaxy contribute to our understanding of galaxy formation and evolution, particularly in relation to the dynamics of spiral structures and the influence of surrounding galaxies in clusters.
