NGC 4486
NGC 4486, also known as Messier 87 (M87), is a giant elliptical galaxy located in the Virgo Cluster, approximately 53 million light-years from Earth. It is one of the most massive galaxies in the local universe and contains a supermassive black hole at its center, which was famously imaged by the Event Horizon Telescope in 2019.
M87 is notable for its bright core and the large jet of particles that emanates from the black hole, extending thousands of light-years into space. The galaxy is home to a diverse population of stars and globular clusters, making it a key object of study in understanding galaxy formation and evolution.
