NGC 2463
NGC 2463 is a planetary nebula located in the constellation Canis Major. It is approximately 1,600 light-years away from Earth and is known for its bright, colorful appearance, which is a result of the ionization of gas surrounding a dying star.
The nebula was discovered by William Herschel in 1785. It has a central star that is shedding its outer layers, creating the nebula's distinct shape. NGC 2463 is part of a larger category of astronomical objects known as planetary nebulae, which are formed during the late stages of stellar evolution.
