NGC 2461
NGC 2461 is an open star cluster located in the constellation of Canis Major. It is approximately 4,000 light-years away from Earth and contains several young, bright stars that are relatively close together in space. The cluster is estimated to be around 100 million years old.
Discovered by John Herschel in 1834, NGC 2461 is notable for its loose structure and the presence of blue supergiant stars. Observations of this cluster help astronomers understand the formation and evolution of stars in similar environments.
