NGC 2236
NGC 2236 is a bright open cluster located in the constellation of Monoceros, also known as the Unicorn. It was discovered by the astronomer John Frederick William Herschel in 1831. This cluster is approximately 2,500 light-years away from Earth and contains several young stars that are still in the process of formation.
The cluster spans about 20 light-years across and is estimated to be around 1 billion years old. NGC 2236 is notable for its relatively high concentration of stars, making it an interesting target for amateur astronomers and astrophotographers. Its location in the night sky makes it accessible for observation with small telescopes.
