NGC 2138
NGC 2138 is a bright planetary nebula located in the constellation of Lepus. It is approximately 3,000 light-years away from Earth and is known for its distinct round shape and vibrant colors, which are produced by the ionization of gas surrounding a dying star.
The nebula was discovered by John Herschel in 1834 and is often studied for its interesting structure and composition. NGC 2138 is part of a larger group of planetary nebulae, which are formed when stars similar to our Sun exhaust their nuclear fuel and shed their outer layers, leaving behind a hot core.
