NGC 2022
NGC 2022 is a planetary nebula located in the constellation of Orion. It is approximately 1,500 light-years away from Earth and is known for its bright, colorful appearance. The nebula is formed from the outer layers of a dying star that has shed its material, creating a glowing shell of gas and dust.
Discovered by William Herschel in 1786, NGC 2022 is classified as a type of planetary nebula, which is a stage in the life cycle of certain stars. The nebula's central star is a white dwarf, which emits intense ultraviolet radiation, causing the surrounding gas to fluoresce and produce its vibrant colors.
