Myopathies
Myopathies are a group of diseases that affect the muscles, leading to weakness and dysfunction. They can be caused by genetic factors, autoimmune disorders, infections, or exposure to certain toxins. Symptoms often include muscle pain, cramps, and difficulty with movement, which can impact daily activities.
Diagnosis typically involves blood tests, imaging studies, and sometimes muscle biopsies to determine the underlying cause. Treatment options may include physical therapy, medications, and lifestyle changes to help manage symptoms and improve muscle function. Some myopathies, like Duchenne muscular dystrophy, are hereditary, while others may develop later in life.
