Muscles of the Leg
The muscles of the leg are primarily divided into three main groups: the anterior, posterior, and lateral compartments. The anterior compartment includes muscles like the quadriceps and tibialis anterior, which help in extending the knee and dorsiflexing the foot.
The posterior compartment contains muscles such as the hamstrings and gastrocnemius, responsible for flexing the knee and plantarflexing the foot. The lateral compartment includes the fibularis longus and fibularis brevis, which assist in eversion of the foot. Together, these muscles enable various movements essential for walking, running, and maintaining balance.
