Muscle Tissues
Muscle tissues are specialized tissues in the body that enable movement and support various functions. There are three main types of muscle tissues: skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, and smooth muscle. Skeletal muscle is under voluntary control and is responsible for moving bones, while cardiac muscle is found only in the heart and operates involuntarily. Smooth muscle is found in the walls of internal organs and blood vessels, also functioning involuntarily.
Each type of muscle tissue has unique characteristics. Skeletal muscle fibers are long and striated, allowing for quick and powerful contractions. Cardiac muscle is striated as well but has a branched structure, enabling synchronized heartbeats. Smooth muscle fibers are non-striated and can contract slowly and rhythmically, helping to regulate processes like digestion and blood flow.
