Muscle tissue is a type of biological tissue that enables movement in the body. It is made up of cells that can contract and relax, allowing us to perform actions like walking, lifting, and even breathing. There are three main types of muscle tissue: skeletal muscle, which moves bones; cardiac muscle, which makes up the heart; and smooth muscle, found in organs like the stomach and intestines.
Each type of muscle tissue has unique characteristics and functions. Skeletal muscle is under voluntary control, meaning we can consciously move it. In contrast, cardiac muscle and smooth muscle operate involuntarily, working automatically to keep our heart beating and our digestive system functioning smoothly.
