Multipotent Cells
Multipotent cells are a type of stem cell that can develop into multiple cell types, but are more limited than pluripotent cells. They are primarily found in specific tissues and play a crucial role in the body's ability to repair and regenerate. For example, hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow can differentiate into various types of blood cells, such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
These cells are essential for maintaining the health of tissues and organs. Unlike embryonic stem cells, which can become any cell type, multipotent cells are restricted to a particular lineage. Their ability to differentiate into a limited range of cells makes them vital for targeted therapies in regenerative medicine.
