Multipotent
Multipotent refers to a type of stem cell that has the ability to develop into multiple cell types, but is limited to a specific group of related cells. For example, hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow are multipotent and can differentiate into various types of blood cells, such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
Unlike pluripotent stem cells, which can become any cell type in the body, multipotent stem cells are more specialized. They play a crucial role in tissue repair and regeneration, making them important for medical research and potential therapies for diseases like leukemia or anemia.
