Multiple Mirror Telescope
The Multiple Mirror Telescope (MMT) is an astronomical observatory located on Mount Hopkins in Arizona. It was designed to use several smaller mirrors instead of one large mirror, allowing for greater flexibility and improved image quality. The MMT was one of the first telescopes to employ this innovative design, which enhances its ability to gather light and observe distant celestial objects.
Constructed in the 1970s, the MMT originally featured six mirrors, each 1.8 meters in diameter. Over the years, it has undergone upgrades, including the addition of advanced instruments for spectroscopy and imaging. The telescope has contributed significantly to our understanding of various astronomical phenomena, including the study of galaxies and exoplanets.
