Moscow Olympics
The Moscow Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXII Olympiad, took place in Moscow, Soviet Union from July 19 to August 3, 1980. This event featured athletes from 80 countries competing in various sports, including athletics, swimming, and gymnastics. It was notable for being the first Olympics held in the Eastern Bloc.
However, the games were marked by a significant boycott led by the United States in response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. As a result, many countries, including Canada and West Germany, also chose not to participate, impacting the overall competition and attendance.
