Moon Rocks
Moon rocks are pieces of the lunar surface that have been collected during various space missions, primarily by astronauts from the Apollo program. These rocks provide valuable insights into the Moon's geology, history, and formation. They vary in composition, including basalt and anorthosite, and can be millions of years old.
The first Moon rocks were brought back to Earth in 1969 by the Apollo 11 mission. Since then, a total of 382 kilograms (842 pounds) of lunar material has been collected. Scientists study these samples to better understand not only the Moon but also the early history of our solar system.
