Montreal-protocol
The Montreal Protocol is an international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production and consumption of substances that deplete it. Adopted in 1987, it focuses primarily on chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and other harmful chemicals, promoting alternatives that are less damaging to the environment.
The protocol has been successful in reducing the use of ozone-depleting substances globally. As a result, the ozone layer is showing signs of recovery, which is crucial for protecting life on Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation. The treaty is considered one of the most effective environmental agreements in history.
