Montana-class Battleships
The Montana-class battleships were a group of four proposed battleships for the United States Navy during World War II. Designed to be larger and more powerful than previous classes, they featured advanced armament and armor. However, none were completed due to the shift in naval warfare towards aircraft carriers and submarines.
The class included the ships Montana, Washington, North Carolina, and South Dakota. Each was intended to carry a main battery of twelve 16-inch guns and had a displacement of around 60,000 tons. Ultimately, the Montana-class was canceled in 1943, reflecting changing military priorities.
