Monica Seles is a former professional tennis player from Yugoslavia, born on December 2, 1973. She became a prominent figure in women's tennis during the early 1990s, winning a total of nine Grand Slam singles titles. Seles was known for her powerful two-handed strokes and competitive spirit, which helped her achieve the world No. 1 ranking.
In 1993, Seles was the victim of a shocking attack when a fan of her rival, Steffi Graf, stabbed her during a match in Hamburg. This incident sidelined her for over two years, but she made a successful return to the sport, continuing to compete until her retirement in 2008.
