Mixean languages
The Mixean languages are a group of indigenous languages spoken primarily in the Mixteca region of southern Mexico. They belong to the Oto-Manguean language family and are characterized by their tonal nature, meaning that pitch can change the meaning of words.
These languages are used by the Mixtec people, who have a rich cultural heritage and history. There are several distinct Mixean languages, including Mixteco and Trique, each with its own dialects. Efforts are ongoing to preserve and promote these languages, which are vital to the identity of their speakers.
